What is included in the price?+
What is included in the price?

Your £250 per person covers everything you need for a seamless two-day journey. This includes all transport between York and Edinburgh (or the reverse), one night's accommodation in Newcastle, guided walking tours at each stop, and expert historical commentary throughout. The only things not included are meals and any personal entrance fees to attractions — though many of our stops (such as Hadrian's Wall and Bamburgh beach) are free to enjoy. We'll always recommend great local places to eat along the way.
How many guests are on each tour?+
How many guests are on each tour?
+
We keep our groups small — a maximum of 14 guests per departure. This means you'll never feel rushed or crowded. It allows us to visit places that larger coaches simply can't access, and it gives your guides the time to answer questions, share stories, and tailor the experience to the group's interests. Most departures run with 6–12 guests, which creates a relaxed, sociable atmosphere.
Where do we meet?+
Where do we meet?
+
For the York → Edinburgh tour, we meet in York city centre on the morning of Day One. For the Edinburgh → York tour, we meet in Edinburgh city centre. Exact meeting points and times are confirmed by email after booking — typically a central, easy-to-find location near the train station. If you're arriving the night before and need hotel recommendations near the meeting point, just ask and we'll be happy to help.
Can dietary requirements be accommodated?+
Can dietary requirements be accommodated?
+
Absolutely. While meals aren't included in the tour price, we stop at carefully chosen pubs, cafés, and restaurants along the route that cater to a wide range of dietary needs — including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and halal options. Just let us know your requirements when you book and we'll make sure every lunch and dinner stop works for you. If you have severe allergies, we can also plan ahead with specific venues.
How much luggage can I bring?+
How much luggage can I bring?
+
Each guest can bring one suitcase (up to standard airline check-in size) plus one carry-on bag or daypack. Your luggage stays securely in the vehicle throughout the tour, so you only need to carry your daypack when we're out exploring on foot. If you're travelling with unusually large or heavy luggage, please get in touch before your departure so we can make arrangements.
What happens if the weather is bad?+
What happens if the weather is bad?
+
This is Northern England and Southern Scotland — the weather is part of the character! Our tours run in all conditions, and some of the most dramatic photos our guests have taken were on moody, atmospheric days. That said, we always have contingency plans. If conditions make an outdoor stop unsafe (for example, high winds on Hadrian's Wall), we'll adjust the itinerary to spend more time at indoor sites like Durham Cathedral or a local museum. We recommend bringing waterproof layers and comfortable walking shoes.
Is the tour suitable for children?+
Is the tour suitable for children?
+
Children aged 10 and over are welcome and tend to love the castles, Roman ruins, and coastal stops. Younger children may find the two-day pace and amount of walking tiring. If you're considering bringing children, drop us a message and we can chat about whether it's the right fit for your family. Children pay the same rate as adults.
How much walking is involved?+
How much walking is involved?
+
The tour involves moderate walking — typically 1–2 miles at each stop, mostly on paved paths, cobbled streets, or well-maintained trails. The Hadrian's Wall section includes some uneven ground and gentle hills. You don't need to be especially fit, but you should be comfortable walking for 30–45 minutes at a time. If you have mobility concerns, please let us know when booking and we'll advise on what to expect at each stop.
How do I get to the starting point?+
How do I get to the starting point?
+
Both York and Edinburgh are well connected by rail. York is around 2 hours from London King's Cross by train, and Edinburgh is approximately 4.5 hours. Many of our guests travel by train the day before and stay overnight near the meeting point. We're happy to suggest convenient hotels and travel options when you book.
What is your cancellation policy?+
What is your cancellation policy?
+
We understand plans can change. Cancellations made more than 14 days before departure receive a full refund. Cancellations between 7 and 14 days before departure receive a 50% refund. Unfortunately, we're unable to offer refunds for cancellations made less than 7 days before departure, as accommodation and vehicle costs are committed by that point. If we need to cancel a departure due to extreme weather or unforeseen circumstances, you'll receive a full refund or the option to transfer to another date.
